Turning The Corner Into Spring

“Hope was there and laughed me out of sadness whispering, ‘Winter will not linger long.’“ - Emily Bronte

Spring, is that you?!

Okay, I have to admit the seasonal affective disorder got me this year. The long, cold winter days, the snow, the rain...I'm sure like many of you I'm just so over it. The warmer days with the sun shining is a welcomed change. It’s go time over here; we have a forward-thinking mindset and lots of plans going into spring.

This is an incredibly busy season for us, both personally and for the business. Almost all of the birthdays in our family are slammed between the end of February and mid-April. That coupled with Easter being one of the biggest baking holidays of the year, it's going to take intense organization to pull it all off. But, we’re always up for a challenge! At the end of March I'll be attending a 5-day advanced bread workshop in British Columbia. As someone who wasn’t classically trained as a baker, it’s an opportunity to further hone my skills and elevate my craft. I'm looking forward to getting some new inspiration, sharing this with my team and you all!

When I return we’ll be ready to swing into market season. In April we start with the Dunnville market on Saturdays (weather permitting), and after a 1-year hiatus, we’re so excited to be returning to the Hagersville market on Wednesday mornings starting May! We’re happy to be bringing it back home, as our beautiful little town turns 150 this year!

The Loaves of Love Campaign we ran during the month of February was a great success. So many of you took part in this initiative and the support from the community was incredibly heart warming. We were able to donate over $1,200 to the Child and Family Services of Grand Erie Foundation. Those funds will be used for a number of programs and resources, including sending a few kids to camp to create some wonderful childhood memories.

Our work with the Foundation is ongoing. Over the next few months, you will see stickers attached to our packaging with information on how to become a Foster Parent. There is a dire need for foster families in our region, a challenge that’s often overlooked. Many times, children who are abandoned, orphaned, abused or neglected have to be placed outside of their community, away from their school and friends because there is just no other placement option for them. If becoming a foster parent is not for you, perhaps you know someone who would make an awesome foster parent. Connect them to CFS of Grand Erie! Let's help spread the word.

We will continue to accept donations through our ordering page passing them through to CFSGE on a monthly basis. In addition, the foundation assists thousands of families with basic needs. If you’d like to drop off items to be donated to the foundation, please bring them by if you’re in the area or when you’re picking up your order:

Here are some examples of items that can be donated. All of them must be NEW and not used:

  • Hygiene products (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, body wash, menstrual products, etc)

  • Baby supplies (wipes, diapers, pull-ups)

  • Gift cards to grocery stores in denominations of $25 (with an activation receipt if possible)

  • Puzzles, children’s books, board games

  • Child pain/fever management medicines (ie. Tylenol or Advil)

A more detailed list can be found on the CFSGE website here. Thank you all for your continued love and support!

- Emily
